After the Covid-19 pandemic, the cheese industry was thirsty for educational opportunities and inspired employment. Many educational opportunities hosted in-person across the United States were shut down for nearly two years.
In 2022, cheese professionals were eager to get their hands dirty and interact in-person with their colleagues to learn and grow. Finances, however, continued to be a barrier to participate in these events, if not actually a larger problem than before. The Cheeseletes launched fundraising for their Back in the Vat grant to fill this monetary gap and connect enthusiastic individuals to hosts looking for inspiration from the outside. From this, the Back in the Vat grant was born.
